A share, also called equity or stock is a single unit of ownership in a company which entitles the holder to an equal claim on the company’s profits and an equal obligation for the company’s debts and losses.
They can be further classified into an two major types:
The stock exchange is a large financial market that provides a regulated platform for the buying and selling of shares. The prices are governed by forces of supply and demand. The two major categories include primary markets and secondary markets.
Investors analyse the markets to find out whether they are appreciating or depreciating in value to enable them to buy underpriced stocks for future profit accumulation.
Share trading involves buying and selling of stocks via a regulated stock broker. Since the prices are governed by supply and demand, investors trade stocks that are depreciating in value due to lack of demand, in exchange for stocks in high demand.
The primary benefit of investing in stocks is that you are able to leverage the economic growth in different sectors and grow a small investment. This is due to the fact that growing economies have low unemployment rates which boosts sales as many people have high amount of disposable income. High consumer demands drive more revenues thus increasing share prices.
